Ron Paul on the Market Bailout

There are a few things I disagree with Ron Paul about, including his proposal to end U.S. citizenship at birth for children of undocumented foreign residents, but he's right about the economy and the markets. Everyone is clamoring for regulation in the market when, during boom times, they were crying out for deregulation. Hypocrites. On the one hand they want profits, but if things go sour they want a rescue.

The problem has been government intervention all along, and more now will only prolong the problem.

Read Ron Paul's article on this topic here.

  1. Just a general observation: It's too bad that Ron Paul isn't quite as smooth and impressive in person as other candidates are. Before the Republican debates months ago, I had not listened to or seen him very much. When I saw the debates, what he said sounded refreshingly different. I especially like what sounded to be real fiscal conservatism. However, the other candidates were very effective in dismissing him and his comments. In the group, he seemed like the kid who never gets his way and has to go along with the other kids, or be completely left out. By contrast, a lot of our successful politicians have gotten by mostly on stage presence and a quick, smooth word (esp. Reagan and Clinton). In a world of sleek ads, we just don't want our leaders to hesitate or search for what they're going to say. I think it makes us uncomfortable. And it makes me wonder if someone like Abe Lincoln could ever be elected today.
