Palm Pre: iPhone Competitor, Not Killer

Palm has launched a device in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). It's called the "Pre," and it looks pretty cool. At first I was doubtful, but kept seeing relatively positive reviews online from people who are at the show. Thinking it over I realized that my negative impression of Palm stemmed from the positively crappy Windows Mobile OS they had been using lately. I mean, Windows on a computer is bad enough, but strip it down and throw it on a smartphone and expect it to be good? Please

This may not be an "iPhone killer," but it could be a serious competitor. This puts RIM's Blackberry Storm to absolute shame, gives T-Mobile's G1 a run for its money, and could be the last nail in the coffin of Samsung's Instinct.

The biggest drawback to this device is that it's being launched on Sprint's network. That company's abysmal customer service alone should be enough to keep people from porting from another carrier to get the Palm Pre, but maybe the device will help Sprint retain a few of the customers it continues to hemorrhage.
