Free Geek is a good idea. Older but still serviceable computer hardware is recycled (GNU/Linux installed) and sold at a very low price. Those who help to recondition the computers learn valuable skills and, on their sixth repair, receive a free system. Free Geek has gotten itself going recently in Minneapolis, but there are no plans to begin in NYC. Why? The two reasons I was provided were rent (sky high in Manhattan) and a much-disputed city law that would mandate manufacturer-funded recycling.
Oh well. How about Brazil?
